FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 12 2009 --
Net proceeds from October’s 7th Annual Bikers
for Boobs Benefit Motorcycle Run were presented to the American Cancer Society
and FIRST FRIDAY today by the Darlins of the Reguladores Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club-CC
Chapter. Each non-profit organization received a check in the amount of $10,200
for a total of $20,400 donated to help fight breast cancer through prevention
and patient support.
Since its inception, Bikers for Boobs has raised over $158,000, to provide vital
funding for cancer education and patient support for Coastal Bend residents.
The American Cancer Society’s Pat McNeil Coastal Bend Breast Prosthesis Program
provides custom fitted prostheses and two mastectomy bras for breast cancer
survivors. Since its beginning in July 2005, the program has provided assistance
to over 450 women. “With support from organizations like the Reguladores LEMC,
this vital program continues to be available for breast cancer survivors in our
community,” says Lindsey Johnson, American Cancer Society’s community manager.
“Bikers for Boobs” helps the American Cancer Society raise awareness for this
program and reach out to as many people as possible. The American Cancer Society
thanks everyone who helps make this event a success!"
“We are very honored and thankful to have the support and friendship of the
Reguladores,” says Peggy May, of FIRST FRIDAY. “We thank them for helping us
achieve our mission to increase awareness of the importance of early detection,
to honor those who have had breast cancer, to provide free mammograms to women
in need and to help save lives,” she adds. Since its inception in 1994, FIRST
FRIDAY has supplied nearly 14,000 free screening mammograms to South Texas women
who could not afford them. This year more than 1,040 mammograms have been
provided.
255 motorcyclists, representing fellow motorcycle clubs and independent riders
from around the State registered for the benefit motorcycle run which included
silent and live auctions, barbecue, live entertainment and more.
“Bikers for Boobs would not be successful without the support of our many
sponsors and the community,” says Event Chairperson, Misty Walker. “We
appreciate their generous contributions of time, in-kind and cash donations to
help ‘make the difference’ and save and improve women’s lives.”
