FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 18, 2009 --
The Darlins of the Reguladores Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club are
hosting the 7th Annual Bikers for Boobs fundraiser on Saturday, October 3rd with
proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society’s Pat McNeil Coastal Bend Breast
Prosthesis program and FIRST FRIDAY, CHRISTUS SPOHN’s breast care program. More
than 300 motorcyclists from throughout the State are expected to attend.
The Darlins, many of them breast cancer survivors or having lost loved ones to
the disease, decided six years ago to create Bikers for Boobs to raise awareness
and prevention to the devastating effects of breast cancer. Since 2003, Bikers
for Boobs has raised $132,000, providing vital funding for cancer education and
patient support for Coastal Bend residents. All proceeds remain here in South
Texas.
The day-long fundraiser kicks off with registration for the benefit motorcycle
run at Corpus Christi Harley-Davidson located at 502 South Padre Island Drive.
First entry out is at 10:00 a.m. Last entry out is at 1:00 p.m. The run will end
with last entry in at 4:00 p.m. at Knuckleheads, located at 819 North Upper
Broadway, where other fundraising activities will begin. Participants can enjoy
delicious South Texas barbecue plates for a $7.00 donation, 50/50 raffle, bikini
bike wash, door prizes, vendors, live auction, live music by Johnson Grass and
Another Level and dancing.
Since its inception in 1994, FIRST FRIDAY has supplied 14,000 free, screening
mammograms to South Texas women who could not afford them. This year to date,
870 mammograms have been provided, an increase of 140 more than this time last
year.
The Pat McNeil Coastal Bend Breast Prosthesis Program provides custom-fitted
prostheses and two mastectomy bras for breast cancer survivors. Since its
beginning in July 2005, the program has provided assistance to over 430 women.
